Submission of applications to participate in the 12th Youth Song Celebration held in 2017 and the terms and conditions of participation

A guest choir or orchestra is a group that does not operate in the Republic of Estonia and does not consist of Estonians permanantly living abroad.
Guest groups are welcome to participate in the 12th Youth Song and Dance Celebration held in 2017 based on the following terms and conditions:

Types of groups eligible to participate

  • Children’s choir
  • Boys’ choir, including mixed boys’ choirs
  • Youth female choir
  • Youth male choir
  • Mixed choir
  • Wind orchestra
  • Youth symphony orchestra (including string orchestras)

Age limits

Children’s choirs – in the year of the celebration the singers in the children’s choir are 11 to 16 years old (10% of choir members may be 17 years old)
Boys’ choirs – in the year of the celebration the singers in the boys’ choir are at least 8 years old and the boys stay on in the boys’ choir until their voice breaks
Mixed boys’ choirs – in the year of the celebration the singers in the mixed boys’ choir are 8 to 25 years old (10% of choir members may be older than 25 years old)
Youth female choirs/youth male choirs/mixed choirs – the choirs of schools and universities; youth choirs consist of members not older than 25 years old (10% of choir members may be older than 25 years old) in the year of the celebration
Wind orchestras/youth symphony orchestras (including string orchestras) – the orchestras of schools and universities; youth orchestras (in the year of the celebration 51% of the members of the orchestra are younger than 25 years old)

* The joint orchestra consists of the wind orchestra and youth symphony orchestra

Registration and registration fee

The registration of guest groups takes place from 19 January to 1 March 2016 on the homepage of the Song and Dance Celebration Foundation at www.laulupidu.ee, where the groups have to fill in an electronic participation application and a participation form.
Registration involves the payment of a registration fee (based on the invoice issued by the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration Foundation ) in the amount of 15 € for each choir/orchestra member and conductor. The registration fee includes: the cost of all study materials and the postage. NB! Registration fee is not refundable!

Conditions for the admittance to the song celebration

The repertoire to be performed at the song celebration has to be recorded and a video recording thereof has to be sent to the artistic team of the song celebration in two parts:

1) 1 November 2016

From the compulsory repertoire the choirs will have to send the video recording of :
children’s choir – E. Talsi Maailm heliseb
boys’ choir – A. Pajupuu Poiste laul
mixed boys’ choir – A. Lemba Minu juurte lugu
youth female choir – G. Ernesaks Noor kevade
mixed choir – K. Voorand Elu on lootus ja loomine
youth male choir – O. Ehala Vaid see on armastus

If the choir wishes to performe in the opening joint choir or the final joint choir, the choir will have to send a video recording of:
either M. Lüdig’s Koit or E. Võrk’s Eesti lipp from the songs of the opening joint choir and G. Ernesaks’ Mu isamaa on minu arm from the songs of the final joint choir

From the compulsory repertoire the orchestras will have to send a video recording of:
wind orchestra – E. Tubin Maksamereliste tants
youth symphony orchestra – R. Puur Tärkamine and R. Jõgi Rännak
string orchestra – H. Eller Kodumaine viis and R. Jõgi Rännak

The decision as regards the admittance to the celebration will be made by the artistic team by 1 December 2016

2) If the group is selected to the celebration, a video recording of the rest of the repertoire will have to be submitted by 1 April 2017.

Participation fee

If the choir has been approved by the artistic team we will send you a respective notice and an invoice for the payment of the participation fee in the beginning of 2017.
Participation fee:
choirs 20 € for each choir member (including conductors and people accompanying the choir);
orchestras 30 € per each member (including conductors and people accompanying the orchestra).

Participation fee includes:

  • catering at the song festival grounds during rehearsals and concerts (one lunch per day);
  • a wrist band which guarantees free of charge entrance to the song festival grounds and free of charge transport in the public transport in Tallinn;
  • a booklet of the celebration.

Participation fee has to be paid by 1 May 2017.
The costs for transport and accommodation will be paid by the choirs/orchestras themselves. If the choirs/orchestras so desire, the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration Foundation will assist them in finding accommodation.
